Washing hair - what should I watch out for?

Several times a week we clean our hair. Because shampooing makes up the bulk of hair care. But what exactly does a shampoo do? Why are there such big differences between different shampoos? What do I have to look out for in a shampoo? All these questions are answered in the following article.

What happens when I clean my hair?
The scalp produces sebum to protect the skin and hair. This serves to moisturize the hair, making it soft, supple and shiny. But after a few days, the hair can no longer absorb the sebum. The hair looks greasy and heavy. This not only looks unsightly, but also feels unpleasant. In addition, dirt and dust collect in the hair. Fine dust also gets stuck and collects at the hairline. As a result, the scalp begins to itch. To avoid this, we clean the hair.

Which shampoo is good for me?
With shampoos, everyone has their preferences and depending on the desired effect, the shampoos are completely different. Depending on the type of hair also differs the need that a shampoo should meet. Some shampoos are particularly mild and only clean, others nourish and moisturize the hair. Many shampoos are designed to meet different needs. These include, for example, dandruff, volume, moisture or shine. For allergies or other special features, there are also natural shampoos. These include the hair care products of the Natural Flowers series, My.Organics and Aveda. Especially for scalp irritations, it is recommended to use one of these natural products.

What happens when I shampoo my hair?
The washing substances in the shampoo ensure that the hair becomes clean. Surfactants dissolve the grease on the scalp and bind the dirt. This is then rinsed out of the hair with the water. Unfortunately, cleaning the hair also has disadvantages. One problem arises from the pH value of the water. This is because water causes the hair to swell and opens the cuticle of the hair. This makes the hair feel rough and lose its shine and also moisture. To prevent this, a conditioner should always be used after shampooing. This closes the cuticle of the hair. Thus, the hair retains important building blocks and nutrients. The water can now no longer simply rinse them out of the hair. The closed cuticle layer also gives the hair shine and makes it easy to comb.

Moisturizing shampoo
For dry hair, it is also advisable to use a mild, moisturizing shampoo. Too aggressive hair care ruins the hair and dries it out even more. The consequences of this are hair breakage and a dull hair feeling. Moisturizing shampoos are therefore important because they nourish the hair already during cleansing. Often they are enriched with oil and nourish the hair.

Mild cleansing
For an irritated scalp, a very gentle and mild shampoo should be used. For example, the Daily Care Treatment Shampoo from Joico, the So Pure Shampoo from Keune or the Head Remedy from KMS. Depending on the brand, there are of course many more different shampoos. It is important for irritated scalps that the shampoos do not contain too aggressive substances. If possible, parabens and sulfates should be avoided.

Are there big differences between shampoos?
Since almost every shampoo comes from a different manufacturer, a different mixture is hidden in the bottle. Of course, the shampoos also differ because of their effect. In a volume shampoo are completely different ingredients than in a shampoo for colored hair. When buying the shampoo, pay attention to your needs. Almost every professional haircare brand offers shampoo for every need.
